I have resisted for some time, but now I think it is time for me to have a 'blog'. Running up to my retirement nearly two years ago I created a 'to do' list of all the 'crafty' projects I would like to undertake - meaning I would have to acquire new skills and perhaps refresh old ones. This forward planning meant that while I was still earning I bought quite a few things I thought would come in useful (more of that later). It is a shame I still have to do housework, gardening and other chores, but I still have plenty of time left to indulge myself. So this blog will be a way of recording what I do, when I did it, and the opportunity to share with family and friends and anyone else who cares to drop by.
So what did I do today? Well I created my blog obviously, and then took a photo of a completed project I finished on Saturday......I painted a piece of cotton fabric with 'Inktense water colour pencils' and when dry tacked it onto a piece of wadding. I inserted this into a machine embroidery frame, and set my machine to do free motion embroidery. I had never done this before, so a quick search on the web, a quick look at my machine instruction book, a quick practise on some scrap material and I was ready to go! At last I was able to use some of my machine embroidery thread that had sat in a draw for the past 15 years! Pleased with the result I then hand finished with embroidery cotton and french knots. I was inspired by the work of Gilda Baron and had bought her book after seeing her work on display at the West Country Quilt and Textile Show in Bristol last year. So finally, another project to tick off my list! I did enjoy this, so may well do another larger, more ambitious piece.
