I have decided to join a local quilting group that meet twice a month and paid my first visit on Wednesday. I was made very welcome and given a run down of what the group do and what to expect each week. I was given some advice on how to sash my 4 patch posy blocks that I will certainly follow. Those however, will have to wait a while. I have been encouraged to make a small quilt for the Linus Project so spent a while rummaging through the groups stash of fabric. It was pointed out that sometimes not many quilts are donated that are suitable for boys or older children, but I found that the materials on offer didn't give me much inspiration. However, I found a small quantity of Christmas type fabrics squares and scraps that I hoped would work out somehow. When I got home I looked through my collection of images for inspiration and in the end cut the fabric to make a large block that I thought could just have a border or two around it - similar to other quilts I saw at the group.
I think it certainly needs a brighter border around the block rather than just having the red border, so I am trying out strips on my design wall first. I might have to raid the groups stash again as I don't have anything myself that will work. I will aim to have a finished quilt 36" square.
Today I finished hand sewing the binding on the first of my matching hour glass quilts and got the other basted ready for quilting.
