On Saturday I completed the quilting of the second twin hourglass quilt. It was a real physical work out, and I felt very hot and bothered by the time I had finished. I worked slowly and carefully, but there were still places where I was frustrated by the quilt having 'puckered' despite easing and smoothing of the layers. Still, once in place on the bed I am sure no one will notice. I have nearly finished hand sewing the binding in place then both quilts will be travelling to their new home 1,250 miles away in Sweden. I will post a picture of them next month.
As respite from sewing the binding I began cutting the fabric strips for the 4 patch posy quilt. Working out the size of the sashing was problematic and to get the best result I am having to reduce the length of the panel. I have now completed the side panels and am pleased with the result so far.
The sashing strips were cut at 1" and so only 1/2" shows around each block. Although I have more length available in the panel I couldn't make the strips any wider otherwise I couldn't fit the blocks across the width of the panel. I may well make the final border around the edge wider than the 1/2". I am not sure what to use for the binding. One idea might be to pick out a colour from the panel, or if I have enough material I could use the sashing material as a contrasting border might stand out too much.
