Lace top

I decided I wanted to buy a new top to wear for Christmas Day and found one I liked on the M&S web site.  However, by the time I had finished looking for other items to add to my basket the top was no longer available due to popular demand!  Typical.  Hubby of course said that if it was that popular I wouldn't want one as I may see someone else wearing the same top!  Point taken.
So I decided I would make one.  Spent ages looking through all my old patterns but as most of them dated back to the 60's, 70's and 80's I couldn't find anything suitable until I spied one that I had used to make my daughter an evening ensemble for her end of school formal do. (about 17 years ago!)  I had never worked with such floppy material before, so this was quite a challenge.
I couldn't be bothered getting my dress form out, so just made the top as per the size I needed.  I thought it had gone together well, but it is perhaps shorter than I would have liked.  It does look OK with my 'best' black trousers, but  I am,  however unsure of the neck as it is quite wide - much more so than it looks on the pattern.  The sleeves too seem a little full on top when on, but look OK on the hanger - so may look for some small shoulder pads that I am sure I will have somewhere - but what the heck, it is only for sitting down to dinner on Christmas Day and will only be seen by family and most probably only worn once! As I had the pattern, interfacing, machine thread and buttons already, the cost of material was less than if I had bought the top - but of course it has taken me a day to do!
