Quilting Frame

Just over a week ago Hubby drove me across the country to collect my new quilting frame.  Quite an epic journey as although it only took 3.5 hours to get there, it took just over 5 hours to get back!  Mind you, we did stop at IKEA just long enough to buy three trestles.

Because Peter has other projects on the go, it has taken him just over the week to build the table to hold the frame.

It needed to have the ability to be taken down, and be used as a smaller table in my craft room.  It is a shame that I just don't have the room to keep it up permanently, or to use it in my craft/sewing room.  However, as I will be crafting other projects and not quilting all the time, this is the best option for the time being.

The top was cut from a large sheet of half inch ply to give two 4'
lengths.  Strips of ply offcuts were added around the edge to give strength, and pieces screwed underneath either side of where the trestles would go. By adding the extra pieces underneath this ensures the top sits in place and cannot move.  If it moves at all......the whole lot moves!
The middle trestle now has extra holes drilled into the top piece to hold locating pegs.  The resulting table is very sturdy and now that it has been given three coats of white paint, looks very good.  Total cost of the table came in at just over £100.

Martha (Machine Quilter) had given us a very thorough demonstration of how to set up and use the frame.  It was very quick and so easy once I had removed all the bubble wrap!
