I have not done any more to my jelly roll strips, but have spent a few sessions over the past week sorting out my scraps and planning what to do with them. I have now used all the scraps and left over bits from my wall hanging and pieced the (160) 2.5" squares together for 4 place mats.
I decided that I wanted a sewing caddy or etui to hold the bits I would need to take to my quilting group so spent some time looking at various solutions on the web. There were some amazing fabric covered boxes and I spent quite a bit of time deciding just what would be best - and came to the conclusion that a 'wallet' would best suit my needs.
I just selected random fabric strips from my scrap boxes and joined them together. I used iron on wadding and selected a fancy stitch on my sewing machine to quilt more or less 'in the ditch'. I added extra wadding and felt for the needle and pin inside sections, and made a pocket for the scissors, tape and seam ripper. A thimble slips into the pocket and the point of the scissors sit inside the thimble to prevent the sharp points piercing the pocket.

A felt flap at the top holds the scissors in place when the wallet is folded, and also serves as a holder for the grips. The bobbin holders are made from three 'hair elastics'. I completed the piece with binding all the way round. I just need to add some velcro dots to keep it closed, although in actual fact it works just as well without them. The wallet fits easily into one of the pockets of my quilted tote I made last week. This little project has taken more or less a whole day on and off.....surprising how much effort it needed!
