I have not done any hand knitting for quite a few years, but recently got the urge to do something when sitting watching tv in the evenings - especially when away. I found some yarn that had been given to me, but couldn't find a pattern in my stash that would work ( I always seemed to be two balls short!) So in the end I searched the internet, found some yarn I liked and bought a pattern that used that particular yarn. I thought I could always adapt the pattern for the other wool I had once I had finished this new one.
Whilst waiting for my order to arrive I decided to sort through my large collection of knitting needles that just lie in a box in a drawer - select the best, and get rid of the odd ones. It was amazing how many I had of the same size (some in different lengths obviously) and how many bent and odd ones there were. I set about drawing what I thought would work, deciding that I wouldn't try to put them all in - but just one set of each size in perhaps two lengths.
I realised that I actually didn't have a set of each size, but wasn't bothered at this stage. It took a while to sort as I have a mixture of imperial and metric sizes. (shows how long I've been knitting!) After a bit of playing around I came up with my design. I had to tweek it as I quickly decided I wouldn't make slots for each pair of needles. I used a piece of curtain material leftovers for the outside, and scraps of cotton for the pockets. It folds into three, and is held shut with two hair elastics that I covered with the same material as the binding.
Overall, I am pleased with the finished result. I decided to add a strip of tape on which I had drawn in permanent marker pen the needle sizes for easy comparison.
