I made three 'inchies' from fabric cuts, added some beads, stuck to some ribbon then positioned onto a simple card. I cut the apertures using a punch then placed a contrasting patterned sheet of paper on the inside.
I have to admit to enjoying making the 'inchies'. I found by chance the Nadine Ruggles web site and became fascinated by Nadine's work. I also watched a vidcast, and Nadine demonstrates her techniques too. I just had to have a go, and made a few and added them to my wall panel. I am now making more as and when I sort or add to my stash of scraps. It is amazing how inch pieces, cut from the same piece of fabric can end up looking so different. They are quite fiddly to make though, but I am getting better now and my later ones look so much neater than my first attempts. The zig zag around the edges was done with a metallic gold thread and so adds a bit of 'sparkle' to the card. I have found that on my machine I need to set the width to 3.5 and the length 0.1. Sometimes I go around the edge twice, but I didn't need to with the metallic thread.
I made a box for the two 'mug rugs' that are a present for my sister-in-law. It was agreed that this year we would not spend more than £1 on a gift for each other and we couldn't give sweets or chocolate! Quite a challenge. So the coasters were made from my fabric scraps, I used left over wadding from a quilt, and as I already had thread, card, labels, and printer ink I didn't have to buy anything. Of course I was able to give my time free!!!
