I didn't have to wait until lunch time today for clue #5. (Link up) It was posted early for the benefit of those who live out of the USA! My heart sank though when I saw that it needed yet more purple. I am fast running out so hope the remaining clues do not need much more of that colour. I was more frugal with my cutting this time, and only cut a strip at a time. I also used some neutrals that I had only used in the first clue, but not in the others. Hopefully the finished results will still look 'scrappy'. I expect I will spend a long time blocking out on my design wall before final sewing together. So I have now finished my 64 HST's for this clue. I am happy with the way these have turned out, but the photo still shows them as far too blue......I am a purple and lilac fan, so it is a shame the photo's do not do them justice.
I took part in a 2.5" square swap last month, and all my swap partners have received theirs, and I have received mine. It is great fun opening the little packets and taking that first look through what has been sent. So many are patterns and colours I would never buy - but it is fun sorting them. I have to admit to wondering why on earth some of the designs get printed at all - and more to the point why on earth anyone would buy them! However, I appreciate that not everyone has the same tastes. I have never bought 'cute' or 'ditsy', or large overall designs - so it is lovely to receive this type.
I am planning to make an Irish Chain quilt with them and hopefully have enough collected to make a start. I want each coloured square to be a different fabric (no repeats unless a different colourway), and my constant will be white. I have sorted all of my squares into colour groups and have now begun to arrange into groups of 5 with the four corner squares being of a similar colour/hue/tone and the central one blending with the outer four - thus making a 9-patch block. The trouble is I have 'orphans' ie. squares that just do not go with anything else - so not sure yet how I will use those. I might have to do some sort of 'scrappy' border to incorporate them perhaps? Not sure how it will look when put together - I expect I will spend ages playing around with the placements. This is a project I hope I can do at my quilting group now that I have bought a lighter weight sewing machine that I will be able to carry more easily.
