I have a number of orphan blocks (ones left over from other projects) and thought that I could begin to use up some of my scraps to make more blocks to go with them. I was amazed at how many small pieces I had left over from my 4 patch posy quilt I made last year. They were smaller than the 3" I needed, so I sewed a strip of fabric to one edge and trimmed to 3" square. I am fascinated by the method of lining up 4 layers of fabric and cutting to get identical pieces (4) that are rotated and sewn together to form 'posies'.
Here is one of my adapted blocks. By adding a border strip to a smaller piece and subsequently sewing together you still get the 'posie' effect but with a 'twist'. I really like the look of this and could see it being really quite effective in a larger panel. I had already decided I wanted to do another one anyway after I have finished my current projects. I have even seen a fabric panel that I think would work really well too. Hmmm.....something to work on. These block will be put with my other orphans and will perhaps be used to make a cover for my Mum's budgie cage to use at night in the winter as the cage is by a big window and she is afraid the bird will get too cold!
