Back to some sewing

I had my replacement hip operation on 21st Feb and everything went well.  I was amazed at how quickly I was back on my feet and walking - but perhaps I have now done too much!  I didn't try sitting at my sewing machine other than for a few minutes a month ago ( sewed some more 9-patch blocks)  Because I was feeling good, and hubby is away I decided to do some serious house cleaning albeit in short sessions......but now my poor leg muscles are killing me and it is agony for those few initial steps when getting up out of a chair.  I don't know what I have done because it is my backside that hurts.....not the leg itself.  Walking however is now painful.  I suppose I have overworked muscles that were damaged during the op......I will have to take it easy and just start doing again the gentle exercises they recommended post op.  I am due to see the consultant next week.....so will have a chat.....perhaps I will be told off !!

Anyway, I have done a bit of sewing after tidying up my craft room and decided that I needed to do something with my scraps.  So I quickly put together two cushion covers but being very lazy I didn't add a zip or any other form of closure (just hand sewed the opening).  This means that when the cushions need washing I will have to undo a seam!
I also thought I would use up some of my smaller 2.5", and 1.5" strips and make another cushion cover - so this time drew out a design and worked out how many pieces I would need.  Today I cut all the pieces and began sewing the 'tri-rec' blocks.  These finish at 2.5".  I am getting quite good at these now having had a lot of practice doing the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt before Christmas.  Mind you, these were smaller - but using the Tri-Rec rulers make these easy to do.  I wish I had them when I made my first quilt - it would have been a lot easier.

I needed tiny half square triangles, but used a method I found on line some time ago where you make them four at a time by sewing around two squares, then cutting the square into four across the corners.  Easy peasy.   These HST's are 1.5" and when joined with 3 other squares will make another block 2.5".  I will most probably do more tomorrow, but will be a good girl and take my time instead of rushing like normal.  I am measuring too to ensure accuracy!  Gosh, I may well make the cushion cover properly with some sort of fancy fastening incorporated into some quilting blocks on the back.....will have to get creative and see what I can come up with.  I've no zips but have lots of buttons!!
