I finished this cushion a couple of weeks ago....but I don't particularly like it. I was using up some scraps but I think I would have preferred a 'darker' look. Still it will do. At this moment in time I am still struggling to sit for any length of time at my sewing machine. I end up with back and shoulder ache - so I know I am not sitting properly! I think my machine is too high, but when I raise my seat, then the foot pedal is not at the right height. I might have to get out my brother machine instead of the pfaff passport I am using at the moment - as that allows me to sew without using a foot pedal. I bought the pfaff for taking to the sewing group - but I've not been since my hip operation.....but I just love the pfaff IDT foot system - so much neater than the bulky walking foot of my brother.....I can understand why people have their sewing machines dropped down into a special sewing table now. Perhaps I can have a raised block on the floor for the foot pedal instead!
Using Up My Scraps
I have been inspired by some blocks that Wanda from
Exuberantcolor has been doing - so I thought I could do something similar. She has used all HST, but I have used a flying geese block instead for mine. I have had fun cutting up strips and putting into piles of colour, but now I am finding that I am having to cut into my fabric stash to get enough of a particular colour to make to block not look 'too' scrappy. I am pleased with what I have done so far and am quite enjoying the process. Each block will finish at 9".
There are two blocks - one a 'dark' and one a 'light'. Wanda is toying with adding a sashing for each of her blocks - but I might not do that. I am also not sure how many blocks I will do - but might make enough so that I can used a fleece blanket I have that can be used for the backing - doing away with the need to buy wadding.
