Mystery Quilt - new and old.

Last year I took part in a Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt.  I had never done one before and I loved the whole process.....but I still haven't finished the quilt.  I got to the point where I fell out of love with it.  I am not sure what it is about it.  Perhaps the yellow put me off.....too vibrant against the other colours.  I also realised it would not fit onto my quilting frame.  To cut a long story short I have now bought longer rods and rails, the batting and backing so there is no excuse not to finish this quilt.  Well apart from the fact that Hubby will need to extend the table the frame sits on to accommodate the extra length.
Bonnie has now posted the introduction to the new mystery.  Last years set me back a bob or two buying all the material and I felt I shouldn't do another.  However, the thrill of putting the fabrics together and waiting each week for the next clue is hard to resist.  So I thought I would do it, but differently.  How so?  Well I would start by using material from my stash without buying loads of material to match Bonnie's choice of colours.  She had selected Browns, aqua and melon/coral with neutrals (as usual for Bonnie).  I pulled out my 3 in 1 shade cards, looked at what colours I had the most of....and here they are.  Lots of small bits of purple left from last years mystery, a couple of big bits of neutral.  The turquoise is a big bit with a small piece of batik in turquoise accents.  The orange batiks I already had....but not much.  So I did make one scrap purchase of a piece of dark orange.  These basic colours form the triad of Turquoise, purple and orange.  They certainly give a bit of zing!  The neutrals will tone them down I expect.  I do not intend making a full sized quilt.  I will follow each clue each week but only make a few......then see how things go.  I noticed last year that not everyone follows Bonnie's colours and there were some amazing quilts shown on the blog.  So first clue comes out towards the end of this month.....can't wait.
