Today hubby finished the extension to my quilting frame. We didn't want to buy another trestle as that would have posed storage problems, so the extension had to sit in the middle of my original table on the middle trestle.
The extension has 'wings' that support the two outer table tops that are supported by the two outer trestles. The whole top is made secure and is strengthened by some battens underneath that are screwed to the top and can be easily removed for when the whole lot has to be taken apart when not in use. The original smaller set up fit easily into our 'garden room', but now that it has been extended by 32" it has to be at an angle and extends into the dining room! I have three tops to quilt. They will have to be done soon as I will need the space for the Christmas tree!
I spent time this afternoon drawing a suitable pantograph for the quilting, and this evening finished attaching the backing, quilt top and the wadding to the rods ready to start the quilting tomorrow. Oskar our 6 month old kitten/cat thought it was great fun diving into the wadding and generally being a nuisance rather than a help as I struggled with so much material and wadding. The wadding is long enough for two quilts and I didn't want to cut it - thus rather a lot of stuff to deal with! The quilt I am doing first is the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt from last year and should finish 87" square. I just hope it will fit under the arm of the machine by the time I get to the end. I've never done a quilt this large using a frame. We shall see how things go.
