Fishy Project

I am slowly trying to reduce my scraps.  I created these fish using basic quilting block elements and designed them in 3 sizes although the tails for the small and medium ones are the same size block.  The head of the fish are basically 'flying geese' made from strips.  As I wasn't too bothered about accuracy I pieced extra strips to some of them to space them out and to make it easier sewing the whole lot together in rows.  I had fun making the tiny little fish and I think they help break up the regular pattern.

I am going to add a contrasting border ( run out of the pale blue fabric ( in fact I thought I wouldn't have enough at one point to put it all together) As this is going to be a Linus Charity Quilt I will quilt onto a fleece backing.

To add a bit of interest I made 'prairie points' for the gills of the fish.  The eyes of the fish were added with fabric paint - but I have not done all of them yet.  I had fun making these fishy blocks and the whole effect I think is a bit unusual.  Will have to wait to see what the ladies of my quilting group think of them when we have the big 'reveal' and competition at the end of the year.
