I have not posted for a while but I have been busy. My 'music' themed quilt was a variation on a 'disappearing 9-patch' set on point....so was a first for me. I enjoyed this until I had the task of cutting and working in the triangles around the edge. The other problem was cutting the sashing so that the circles of the print ran straight. I used a variety of plain scraps for the little coloured squares and I think they work quite well. I find it difficult to do 'random'.....I kept having to move them about until I was happy with the 'randomness' if you get my drift!

I only just managed to get the backing to fit without having a join - but I did have to join strips to enable me to fit it onto my quilting frame. Fortunately the join ended up in the binding edge and so doesn't show. The finished quilt now has its home in the music room of my daughter and son-in-law. Looks good I thought! The backing was a bright patterned fleece, so no wadding was used. It covers a futon bed, so didn't need to be super warm. When I originally saw the musical material I just knew I had to buy it and make a quilt for this room. My daughter plays the saxaphone (other instruments too) the trumpet fabric had to do for her hubby in place of a cornet. Both of them play in competion brass bands and are very committed to their music.
This is the other quilt I finally finished. It might not live in the conservatory all the time as the colours would most probably fade over.
Another little project was these pin cushions (one given to my daughter) I had always wanted to have a go at cathedral windows....and when I saw a tutorial for these on the internet just knew I had to have a go. They were easy and fun to do. I filled them with a metal pan scourer in the middle as doing this helps pins to keep sharp and not go rusty.
