Each year the quilt group members make a number of blocks for a group quilt organised by one of the members.
The blocks are put together and the final quilt is raffled and the proceeds go towards group funds. These funds are used to buy wadding and backings for the charity quilts the members make. This year I was asked if I could do the quilting as the member who usually does this knew she was not able to due to a damaged shoulder. I didn't mind, but felt the pressure whilst doing this!
Normally the quilts I make are just for me or family and 'perfection' is not required!! Here though I felt that I had to ensure there were no skipped stitches, or loops on the back - tricky. It took quilt a while to put the quilt onto my quilting frame and to get the backing lined up correctly as there were a column of blocks on the back too. The finished result is OK, but the pantograph pattern seemed to 'move' slightly across the quilt and as I neared the bottom I realise I should have adjusted the pattern to avoid a slightly bigger gap around the edges. I am not finishing the quilt, so I hope our quilt member who is adding the binding reduces the border a bit and then I am sure it will look OK. I nearly forgot to take these photographs but suddenly remembered as I was packing the quilt up to take to the group tomorrow. I don't suppose I will have the opportunity to photograph it again once the binding is on.
