I took up bobbin lace just over a year ago and am now finding myself spending more and more time on this hobby. When I began I knew there were many different types of lace from various parts of the world but started with Torchon Lace as this was considered an ideal beginners lace to learn the basic techniques. I have though, been intrigued by the lace from the Idrija area of Slovenia and have completed a few motifs and have started a larger piece. (Will post progress another day)

I needed a new project to take along to my monthly lace group/class and so bought a book at Christmas to complete a Torchon 'spider' sampler. Problem was I needed a much bigger lace pillow than the one I had been given by a fellow member...long story short I was able to buy a second hand once from the teacher of the group. The other problem then of course was having a bag to carry it in. So I set to and made myself a bag along the lines of an earlier one I made for my smaller pillow. The bag finishes at 26" x 30" and has velcro along the side edges making it easy to open up to insert or take out my 22" lace pillow. I can even carry it on my shoulder although the dowel handles are a bit hard but fortunately distances to carry the bag are only short. I was able to use up quite a bit of my black and white fabric scraps.....and I made the blocks black/white on one side and white/black on the other. The quilting was done with a very bright lime green!
