Today I made another dumpling pouch with the same material as yesterday - but the smallest size this time. It finished 7" long and 4.5" high. It just about holds all my wooden continental lace bobbins with space for the few more I have being used on my lace pillow at the moment.
I am much happier with this pouch. Instead of using car headliner material like yesterday ( in hind sight I should have used two layers) I used some much thicker foam stuff left over from another bag project. I also added some strands of embroidery floss the same colour as the zip for contrast, sewing over the threads with a utility zig zag stitch normally used for sewing elastic. I only had one zip left, a rather yucky dirty peach sort of colour or some might say flesh tone, so picking out some embroidery floss to match has given the finished pouch a little touch of elegance. I have also added two tabs at each end where the zip finishes. These were made using a folded piece of stiff black gross grain ribbon sometimes used for stiffening in waistbands. I also added a bit of ribbon on the zip pull. Now it is much easier to open and close the zip as you have something to hold on to. Being a smaller size though, the final stage of sewing was more fiddly than yesterday. I can understand why the video demo shows the large pouch!
