Colourful 9-patch progress

I have finished sewing all the blocks together.  If the 'quilt police' were to look at the result they would no doubt do some tut tutting about some poor alignments!  I found it hard nesting the seams together in places and I had forgotten to check for accuracy and trim as necessary all the 9-patch blocks.  However, this quilt will not be entered for a competition, nor will I be selling it so it will be just me having to live with the odd imperfect join on some of the little squares!

I will have to add a border as the finished top only just covers my 6 foot wide bed in the photo.  The finished quilt will most probably live on my spare bed which is 5'6" wide, so a 9" border should be ample.  It really needed another row of 9-patch blocks all round, but I do not have any more unique material.  It is a shame I can't take part in another fabric swap for some more 2.5" squares.  I have some white on white fabric strips left over from my 365 quilt backing, so I will have to check whether there will be enough.  I also have some batik fabric that might work for the binding.  I want to avoid buying any more material, but am struggling to find anything suitable for the back.  I still have plenty of wadding as I bought a whole roll from Empress Mills when they had an offer on a couple of years ago.

The chances are this top will be put away for a while as I really need to get my head around knitting some Christmas jumpers - as per request from daughter!
