This torchon lace project was meant to be for when I went to my lace group each month. Of course Covid and lockdown changed all that. I ended up doing a little bit each morning before starting my household chores and of course my sock knitting! I have no idea what I will do with it. There are mistakes that I noticed when removing the pins, and I am not happy at all about the finishing off along the bottom left edge. That is one thing I hate about bobbin lace and the silly number of bobbins that are used on something like this. All those threads have to be 'tied off' or 'finished' somehow and it is almost impossible to 'weave' in the ends so that they don't show. That is perhaps why I find the Idrija lace where you only use 6 pairs easier to neaten off at the end of a piece. I have to admit though, I did enjoy doing this and I have already printed off another pattern for doing at the lace group ( has now restarted!) I also have another large Idrija pattern that I will do, but I think I will save that for doing each day. The new torchon pattern involved doing what is called 'roseground' and I have not mastered that yet, so will benefit from some tuition from Pat at the lace group.
The materials were a remnant of some curtains I made some years ago and a white printed piece that I had used as a throw on the old sofa. I added a square of wadding to the back of the white fabric and machined some stitching around the edges of the grey pattern and added machine embroidery to the middles of the flowery shapes. The oblong cushion used the two different material together with a strip of machine applique and embroidery over the join. I was quite pleased with the result, but in a way wished I had done more machine work on the white fabric.
